The town of Renens (VD) is planning to redesign the Verdeaux-Pépinières-Saugiaz school grounds. The Oasis project by the Comte/Meuwly architecture firm in collaboration with La Touche Verte Paysagistes, Schnetzer Puskas Ingenieure, SB Technique SBt , MP Ingénieurs Conseils and Zirkular won the architectural competition held for this purpose.

The Oasis Verdeaux project is characterized by the maximum possible preservation of the existing buildings and the clear placement of two new buildings. The pressing issues of climate change, ecology and sustainability are at the heart of this project.

The footprint of the new buildings is as small as possible and there is no basement. These timber-steel-concrete hybrid buildings are light and delicate. The landscape project aims to remove as much paved ground surface as possible. The rainwater absorbed by the unsealed soil enables the trees to be watered naturally and at the same time creates a temperate microclimate. With the help of Zirkular, mostly reused building elements are used in the construction. Climate change issues are addressed directly and solutions are found that make ecology and sustainability tangible in an urban educational space.
