The corner building on Sandgrubenstrasse in Basel is part of a listed ensemble dating from 1940. As part of the conversion, small apartments are being created, accompanied by energy-performance upgrades and structural and fire safety measures.

Zirkular is supporting the project with a potential analysis for the development of circular strategies and a comprehensive search for building components. One focus is on the reuse of materials from the existing building. The scope of work also includes conducting a thorough inventory, planning and overseeing the non-destructive dismantling, and ensuring proper storage of the components. In addition, reusable components and surplus stock are being procured from external sources such as steel beams, stone wool insulation, interior doors, and sanitary fixtures. A key challenge is to combine high building physics requirements with the preservation of the historic character.
