Climate adaptation measures were developed for the Erlenmatt primary school in Basel. A key component is the new sun protection on the flat roofs of the first, third and fifth floors, which is being implemented with a high proportion of reused materials. Zirkular is accompanying the project from planning to implementation. The search for components focused on the shading slats and the horizontal steel support structure in the roof to which the slats are attached. The high degree of design flexibility in the materialisation of the slats facilitated the search for components. The team decided to use reused crash barriers. In addition, steel beams for the roof were harvested from two demolition projects. The project is currently in the implementation phase. The last modules of the shading structure are being assembled.
Thanks to the manageable scope of the project, it was possible to implement it within a year. The project also sets an example in the scholar context and shows students what circular construction can look like today.
