Building Component Catolog for IBS

As part of the «Walkeweg» and «Schliengerweg» project competitions, Zirkular cataloged the reuse building components for the «Building Components Catalog for Reuse» of the Real Estate Management for the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Building components are compiled in the catalog that originate from current deconstruction objects of the Canton of Basel-Stadt. The material is made available for the teams who are working on current competition tasks and will later be reused in projects owned by the canton.

Walkeweg and Schliengerweg
As part of the cantonal «Housing Construction Program 1000+», the canton of Basel-Stadt is building over 1000 new affordable apartments over the course of the next 10 years.
Part of this program is the development area Walkeweg, where the canton will build more than 100 apartments with an integrated immigration center by the year 2026, according to ecological and social principles. The open project competition was won by the Parabase planning team with Monotti Ingegneri Consulenti SA and USUS Landscape Architecture, who together impressed the judges with its «Elementa» project. The winning project uses, among other things, concrete elements from the deconstruction of the Lysbüchel parking garage.
Also as part of the «Housing Construction Program 1000+», five to seven apartments are to be built at «Schliengerweg 31», along with a kindergarten on the first floor.

The winners of the competition are the planning team Solanellas Van Noten Meister and Thomas Kohlhammer with their project «L’Eclisse». In addition to functional, flexibly usable floor plans, the interdisciplinary jury was won over by the high proportion of reused building components.

In a pioneering role, Real Estate Management for the Canton of Basel-Stadt actively promotes the circular economy. The reuse of building components makes a contribution to achieving the “net zero” climate target set by the government for the year 2040.
