Ziegelei Ost

The development firm Bricks AG organized an invited competition commissioning participants to study the potential development of the former brickworks site “Ziegelei Ost Allschwil”. The municipality of Allschwil and the owner, Petrusso AG, support the desired development approach. Situated on the 45,000 m² site and having grown over a period of more than 100 years, the existing building complex is both a challenge and a great potential for the project. Together with Pool Architekten, Westpol Landschaftsarchitektur and Dr. Deuring + Oehninger, Zirkular developed the “Habitat Ziegelei Allschwil” concept for the further development of the site based on the “Binningerstrasse” master plan. Their work convinced the jury and was chosen to serve as the guideline project for the ongoing neighborhood planning process and the next planning steps. As the development continues, Zirkular is supporting the project realisation as a specialist planner for circular construction. The aim is to preserve the existing buildings where possible and to carefully develop them further. Where this is not possible, the materials from the demolished buildings are to be reused elsewhere in the development project.
